Position Overview:

The Chief Engineer - Critical Environments will serve as the Technical Experience Lead, responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all mechanical, electrical, life safety, and control systems throughout a complex campus comprising offices, laboratories, data centers, critical environments, and employee amenities.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Mentor and support System and Asset Owners in developing their technical competencies for effective management of their responsibilities.
  • Foster collaboration between internal teams, vendor partners, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and operational success.
  • Provide high-level technical expertise while leading troubleshooting efforts, systems optimization, and driving process improvements.


Mechanical and Electrical Systems Support:

  • Oversee the management and maintenance of key mechanical systems, including HVAC systems, chillers, and environmental systems to ensure reliability and operational integrity.
  • Audit and analyze electrical systems, including power supply units, UPS systems, switchgear, and battery backup systems. Consult with System Owners through system performance monitoring and assist in system troubleshooting to eliminate adverse conditions.
  • Support System Owners in diagnosing and resolving issues pertaining to mechanical and electrical systems with the aim of sustaining operational standards to ensure system reliability.
  • Consult with utility providers to enhance power quality and troubleshoot complex electrical problems.
  • Ensure that preventive maintenance job plans for mechanical and electrical systems are updated to reflect industry standards and are well-executed by the IFM partner.

Management of Fire Life Safety Systems:

  • Serve as the lead manager and point of contact regarding fire life safety systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, suppression systems, and ancillary infrastructure.
  • Lead and support System Owners in ensuring code compliance and operational requirements for life safety systems.
  • Coordinate with project teams and authorities to implement fire life safety systems into new and existing facilities.


Construction Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with construction teams and project managers to ensure design specifications meet operational requirements for new builds and renovations.
  • Provide technical leadership for system commissioning and integration.
  • Participate in long-term asset replacement strategies and capacity planning to meet campus growth and resiliency needs.


Operation Accountability and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement best practices in safety, reliability, and compliance for all infrastructure systems.
  • Hold vendor partners accountable for commitments to preventive maintenance and repairs, ensuring work is executed consistently to a high standard.
  • Conduct audits and quality control on key assets, ensuring best practices in preventive maintenance are aligned with industry standards and correctly executed.
  • Ensure job plans for critical asset maintenance are complete, current, and reflect industry best practices for delivering quality service through the IFM partner.
  • Track system performance metrics, KPIs, and vendor deliverables.
  • Lead efforts for emergency response related to critical system failures to ensure timely resolution with minimal disruption to operations.

Qualifications


You must possess the minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Relevant experience can be obtained through school work, classes and project work, internships, military training, and/or work experience.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Engineering or in a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical power distribution, instrumentation and controls, and fire life safety systems.
  • Experience leading system design, commissioning, and integration during construction and renovation projects.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for complex systems and infrastructure.

  • Proven skills to provide mentorship and support to System and Asset Owners while offering senior-level guidance to teams and vendors.


Preferred qualifications:

  • 15+ years in facilities engineering or critical environment operations, with extensive hands-on experience related to mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems.
  • Universal EPA Certification (608).
  • State and local licenses related to HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems.
  • LEED certification or other sustainability-focused credentials.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US $160,190.00-$226,150.00
*Salary range dependent on a number of factors including location and experience


Working Model


This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. * Job posting details (such as work model, location or time type) are subject to change.
