Job Description


Designs, develops, maintains, tests, and optimizes operating system to implement hardware abstraction layers, OS services, and user space software subsystems. The subsystems development requires technologies including virtualization, containerization, graphics/media user space components, networking routing, connectivity stacks (Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, etc.), power management, performance optimization, and/or other technologies both open source and proprietary. Utilizes knowledge in software architecture, design, and development, and understands operating system internals and silicon on platform features.

Qualifications


The Systems Memory and Storage Architecture teams is actively researching heterogenous systems architectures targeted the delivery of performance and power advances not possible with today's CPUs and GPUs. The team is focused on prototyping software and hardware featuring compute closely integrated with memory to speed the processing of Large Language Models and other important applications. We seek software engineers with AI software experience to join the team and help us prototype the software capabilities needed as we work to define the architecture for these future distributed computing systems. In this role you will contribute to software definition and development where software meets hardware, connecting the AI stack to prototype hardware. In addition to helping deliver prototype systems, you will help specify future potential products based on your findings. The position offers opportunities to contribute to open source software development at Intel and potentially in the greater software community. The position offers strong opportunity for learning about AI in general and about platform memory support for AI in particular. You'll work directly with Principal Engineers and Fellows. Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelors or Masters Degree in EE, CE, CS plus 3+ years experience or PhD in EE, CW, CS. - Experience in Linux kernel development and device driver programming. - Deep understanding of hardware architecture and system-level programming. Working knowledge of computer systems HW/SW interface - Proficiency in C/C++, strong knowledge of Linux kernel internals, and experience with low-level programming. - Experience working as part of a larger software team What we additionally value: - Experienced contributing to Linux Kernel or other open-source software development - Proven expertise in debugging, profiling, and optimizing kernel code. - Knowledge of AI or HPC platform, CXL, network, and system architecture a plus. - Systems research experience, especially research prototype creation a plus.

Working Model


This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
