Technology Project/Program Manager: Architecture Documentation Expert
Job Description
This full-time position is responsible for producing, updating, and maintaining the flagship documentation manuals for Intel Architecture (x86). Production of these manuals is critical to Intel's business because they are the principal way in which Intel enables the development of software for its CPU products. (The documents are the Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer's Manual and the Intel Architecture Instruction Set Extensions and Future Features Programming Reference; responsibilities may include other manuals as needs arise. The SDM is currently over 5,000 pages in length.)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Producing, maintaining, and updating, Intel's manuals to meet customer needs at a timely and regular release cadence (current cadence is quarterly).
- Defining and leading the internal review processes to ensure correctness, clarity, conciseness, and completeness of Intel's manuals.
- Coordinating a team of contributors and stakeholders to achieve the above.
- Editing and proofreading large amounts of technical information from contributors and adding it to existing material in a way that preserves overall document consistency.
- Participating in planning related to disclosures and updates to manuals.
- Researching issues that arise, collaborating with stakeholders, and resolving defect reports related to the manuals.
- Understanding the specification needs of Intel CPU customers and how Intel's public manuals can best serve them.
- Developing a working knowledge of Intel Architecture as embodied in past, current, and future generation CPU products.
- Designing and developing new ways to relay information that increases the readability and usefulness of the manuals.
- Sharing expertise and knowledge of the documentation tools used to increase the skills of stakeholders across a wide variety of teams. Examples include Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, web ticketing systems, etc.
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience would be obtained through a combination of prior education level classes, and current level school classes, projects, research, and relevant previous job and/or internship experience.
Minimum Qualification:
- The candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or other relevant technical field.
- 5+ years of work experience as a technical writer or documentation specialist with a strong portfolio of work examples.
- 2+ years’ experience with Adobe FrameMaker and related utilities
- 1+ years’ experience of JIRA databases for defect management
- 5+ years’ experience with Project management, especially the ability to work under deadlines with many diverse stakeholders.
5+ years of experience with the following skills:
- As an author and maintainer of technical documentation
- Excellent influencing skills, and stakeholder management skills with stakeholders in engineering and business.
- Expertise to learn continuously from execution and to drive process improvements across functions and groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Intel Architecture (x86).
- Experience developing technical documentation at a similar scale and level of complexity to Intel manuals.
- Programming experience, especially at the assembly level or a low level of abstraction.
- Knowledge of Github databases for code commits.
- The ability to manage tasks on time.
- Writing clearly and to the point.
- Empathy for the end user and their experience.
- Extensive attention to detail and an ability to be extremely thorough in the face of tedium.
- Strong evidence of self-motivation: getting things done with little supervision and across organizational boundaries.

Working Model
This role is available as a fully home-based and generally would require you to attend Intel sites only occasionally based on business need. This role may also be available as our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.Posting End Date
