Architecture Research Scientist
Job Description
Initiates the design, development, execution, and implementation of scientific research projects to fuel growth in Intel's wide range of specialized xPU computing architectures. Applies scientific research principles and concepts to potential inventions and products for Intel xPU development including GPU, IPU, VPU, FPGA, or other accelerators to enable breakthrough power-efficient and area-efficient performance in areas such as artificial intelligence, 3D graphics rendering, 2D and 3D vision, omics, machine learning, and image and video processing. Develops the vision and value proposition, aligns technology strategy within the constraints of Intel xPU product architecture/design, and drives fast-paced research and development to meet timelines. Performs research to define boundaries, create proof-of-concepts, or prototype new ideas. Researches and develops accelerator subsystems that can be integrated efficiently with the broader xPU architecture. Innovates on custom compute, cache, interconnect, and memory subsystems that bring special value to xPU products on emerging algorithms and uses cases while remaining within its cost and power envelope. Designs, implements, verifies, and optimizes power and performance of xPU hardware and supports to develop next generation platforms through pathfinding research. Researches and develops system software, runtime, driver, and compiler support codesigned with the xPU architecture and microarchitecture that allows hardware inventions to be exploited at the system level to benefit real-world applications in important established and emerging domains. May work with other hardware and software teams to develop algorithms, build functional modeling tools and simulators, develop analytical and performance simulation tools, and run and analyze benchmarks for various applications of relevance to xPUs. Researches technological trends, comprehends Intel competitor xPU products, enables partnerships and collaboration among industry, academia, standards bodies, product, and other technical groups to address important technology and customer issues, and finds innovative solutions to difficult problems for midterm or longterm time frames. Influences external research, disseminates results, and raises the profile of conducted research through scientific publications, patents, talks, and Intel internal or external outreach efforts. Works with other xPU engineering design teams to determine product requirements and the feasibility of new XPU technology adoption and integration. Recommends features and influences future xPU product roadmap.Qualifications
