Job Description

Our Purpose:

Real Estate and Workplace Services (REWS) touches the lives of every Intel employee every day. Our scope is vast and includes operating and maintaining all Intel sites, offices, labs, and factories globally, as well as onsite services and experiences that help employees stay safe and productive. REWS also helps to make Intel and our community a greener place by supporting Intel's commitment to environmental sustainability, including investing in conservation projects, setting company-wide environmental targets, and driving reductions in greenhouse emissions, energy use, water use, and waste generation.

Position Overview:

The Facilities Mechanical and Controls Engineer based in Santa Clara, California, will serve as the Technical Subject Matter Expert, providing leadership and expertise to ensure the reliability, performance, and safety of all mechanical, HVAC, and control systems within critical environments, laboratories, and other facilities. This individual will leverage their extensive field experience to mentor and collaborate with other engineers, serve as the system owner, and manage the health and performance of equipment by overseeing the work of Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partners and external vendors. While this role transitions away from hands-on equipment work, the candidate will utilize their technical expertise to direct, oversee, and ensure adherence to high standards in equipment operation and maintenance.

As a Facilities Mechanical and Controls Engineer, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • System Availability & Reliability: Ensure the availability, reliability, and maintenance of mechanical and HVAC systems (e.g., oil-free air systems, HVAC systems, chilled water plants, boilers, environmental abatement systems, and environmental compliance exhaust) critical to supporting data centers, labs, and facility operations.
  • Safety & Environmental Standards: Support daily efforts to achieve safety, reliability, and environmental compliance objectives for all facilities’ mechanical systems.
  • System Design & Analysis: Design and analyze mechanical systems and equipment, troubleshoot systemic issues, and provide evaluation, recommendations, and solutions to resolve complex problems.
  • Project Development: Develop engineering scopes of work for mechanical projects, conduct feasibility studies, and review and evaluate the design of mechanical systems.
  • Control Systems Expertise:
    • Oversee industrial instrumentation and automation systems used for maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and programming of analytical instrumentation.
    • Design and develop new control systems, and test, maintain, and modify existing systems.
  • Compliance & Quality Standards: Understand and ensure all work adheres to relevant health and safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause failure analysis to address equipment issues and manage long-term improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Partnership:
    • Act as a partner to business units, providing engineering solutions for equipment and systems to meet operational goals.
    • Work closely with operations teams and IFM service providers to ensure mechanical systems are maintained and operated within specified limits
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a systems roadmap and asset replacement strategy to ensure reliability, redundancy, and capacity for facility expansions, renovations, and growth initiatives.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide and mentor other engineers, sharing expertise and fostering a culture of collaboration, while serving as the team lead for mechanical and controls engineering initiatives.

The role requires onsite presence in the beginning to be system owners to onsite equipment. Hybrid model may occur after once fully integrated to site and health of units is managed well.
