Component Debug Engineering Director
Job Description
The Component Debug Director will lead and manage a multidisciplinary team responsible for diagnosing and resolving component-level issues across complex hardware systems. This role requires expertise in debugging methodologies, advanced diagnostic tools, and cross-functional collaboration to drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions. Key responsibilities include:
- Manage a team of post-silicon engineers with expertise in semiconductor testing tools, flow, and methodologies to enable seamless product execution.
- Lead post-silicon validation, failure analysis, and root-cause debugging efforts for hardware components and systems.
- Work with design teams to define testability requirements such as DFX, DFM, and DFD.
- Oversee debug processes specifically for process and design issues at the Penang Site.
- Develop and implement advanced debugging techniques to diagnose electrical, thermal, and functional issues.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer support teams to drive critical component failure resolutions.
- Establish and maintain debugging workflows, tools, and best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Analyse debug data trends to identify potential failure modes and optimize design and manufacturing processes.
- Utilize system setups, testing equipment, automated systems, and lab tools to isolate silicon issues under test.
- Partner to resolve quality issues, share ownership of failure analysis, and provide recommendations for permanent remedies.
- Develop new debug technologies, methodologies, and tools to advance silicon debug capabilities.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, operational budgets, resource allocation, and performance tracking.
- Oversee hiring, performance evaluations, and fostering team development.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in pre-silicon logic or circuit design, or post-silicon functional/electrical validation.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a programming or scripting language such as PERL or Python.
- 15+ years of experience in developing integrated circuits, including pre-silicon, first silicon bring-up, and new product introduction.
- 12+ years in hardware debugging, post-silicon validation, or failure analysis with 5+ years in leadership roles.
- 10+ years of experience in product and test engineering, including ATE test program development and tester platform expertise.
- 8+ years of developing test engineering solutions such as vector definition and implementation.
- 8+ years of coding experience using Python and/or Java.
- Strong analytical ability, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Leadership traits in managing teams and programs.
- Knowledge of hardware architectures, circuit design, and interconnect protocols (e.g., PCIe, USB, DDR).
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and thermal imaging systems.
- Familiarity with ATE (Automated Test Equipment) processes and production yield analysis.
- Strong communication skills for presenting to executives and cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- ASIC/VLSI design skills.
- Experience in Verilog or VHDL coding and JTAG/TAP functionality.
- Strong background in scripting, automation frameworks, and DFT architecture.
- Hands-on experience with defect characterization techniques such as X-ray, SEM, or FIB.
- Familiarity with cutting-edge trends in semiconductor technology.
- Strong probability and statistical background, including DOE.
- Proven track record in large-scale production debugging tools and methodologies.
- Experience in failure analysis, yield analysis, and customer interfacing.
- Growth mindset with a focus on adaptability, customer satisfaction, and driving results.
