Development Tools Software Engineer
Job Description
Are you interested in developing software with a strong core team of great engineers in a group offering significant opportunities for growth? To work hands on with every Intel lead silicon design, years before being publicly available. Come join our development team delivering debug solutions used by top technology companies.
Project: OpenIPC is a leading platform debug tool. It creates human-usable abstractions of complex silicon debug interfaces to validate and debug every piece of silicon manufactured by Intel. Like Visual Studio, but for hardware, you can walk up, authorize consent and completely "own" a target platform. It submits hardware CPU instructions to halt execution to modify or step through any code running on a live system. That system can be located anywhere in the world (over the internet), within a Tier 1 datacenter or be a compute node within a supercomputer. Our solution is comprised of a software stack plus hardware component(s). USB hardware probes plug into target silicon under test. Our HW probes contain FPGAs, microcontrollers and firmware. OpenIPC SW and HW probes are ubiquitous and can be found in most every lab within Intel and at many major computing device manufacturers outside of Intel. Our group sends engineers to labs all over the world supporting the first boot of new silicon designs.
Customers: Our customer base is varied, and is used by: expert individuals who have deep architectural knowledge of silicon designs; by entire teams who author vast swaths of detailed functional test content; by large validation labs throughout Intel who automate verification flows executing on thousands of pre-production systems; by major computing device manufacturers around the world trying to ship new Intel based product designs; by Tier 1 datacenters deployed at-scale who want to triage real-time hardware failures; and by High Performance Computing manufactures integrating Intel silicon into supercomputer designs.
Team: OpenIPC team leverages modern development practices and is supported by Continuous Integration regression systems. Opportunities exist for you to mentor under experienced engineers in our organization. We support trying new things, continued learning and professional growth.
Technology: OpenIPC is developed primarily in C++ with an embedded Python runtime. OpenIPC consumes XML and Python collateral business logic for supporting new Silicon programs. Our cross-platform build-infrastructure compiles on Windows, macOS and Linux. Targeting both Intel and ARM architectures. We extensively leverage Open Source libraries and frameworks where possible. Your source code may also be released to other companies and even incorporated into their commercial products. Developers can personally choose to develop code on Windows, macOS or Linux platforms.
Job role: Your primary responsibilities include new software development, software design, writing tests, modifying existing features, debug and bug fixing. You'll have opportunities for hands on lab work if integrating hardware features or when debugging customer issues. The team work together to grow expertise in software engineering best practices, debug and problem-solving skills.
We welcome you to join us, especially if you are interested in silicon designs. We are in a unique position within Intel where we work with every CPU, AI, autonomous driving product Intel produces. In contrast to being on a project development team spending year(s) working on one project before being able to move onto the next. Our team plays a crucial role helping Intel deliver every next big thing.
Thanks for considering this opportunity. We look forward to talking with you.
