Messaging Engineer

Job Description

Designs, builds, and integrates applications and platforms to support Intel's business needs. Responsible for application packaging deployment that meets IT standards. Responsible for understanding various client and/or server architectural blueprints, operating system build technologies, system patching, system management & auditing; automation, as well as server build processes. Designs and appropriately builds out all environments, which includes use of external application landing zones (DMZ), Network Load Balancing (NLB), Storage Area Networks (SAN), Microsoft OS and SQL clusters, and data encryption. Provides these services on both internal and externally facing applications, and interacts with customers, IT partners, system architects, product managers, design engineers, service and support teams, and other system users who require input regarding their planned or existing system.

  • Design and deploy messaging solutions which may include merger of mailing systems.  Build and integrate solutions in line with IT expectations to support Intel’s business needs.
  • Understand the requirements of Business users and groups, their usage of Email to recommend appropriate solutions to meet their needs.
  • Have Business, Strategic and Industry acumen in Messaging capability and Collaboration tools.
  • Follow ITIL standards and practices for day to day Operations.  Knowledge and experience with DevOps practices.
  • Understand and follow server build process, system patching, system management processes; auditing; and automation.
  • Test and deploy systems and configurations in a controlled environment prior to Enterprise rollout.
  • Work independently on large scale projects as single point of contact for Messaging.  Documenting design, deployment plan, assessing risks, understanding interdependencies, communicating clearly with stakeholders, working with Operations, dealing with ambiguity, dealing in a complex project structure
  • Taking accountability for project work, assuming responsibility, while also delegating tasks on projects.
  • Thinking through the details for complex projects to ensure all aspects are considered during the early project stages.  Ensuring minimal rework and roadblocks during execution of projects.
  • Presenting to Management on project designs, communicating clearly, and taking design through appropriate approval bodies.
  • Working across organization boundaries to ensure projects are executed on time and to specifications.
  • Work with a global team of Engineers and Management to meet stated objectives.
  • Ability to plan work in advance and play a key role in defining strategy for the team, recommend and implement technical and organizational change.
  • Demonstrate ownership and accountability for work done.
  • Responsible for deployment that meets IT standards.
  • Support MS Exchange, MS Outlook, Unified Messaging, Anti-spam (IronPort), E-mail encryption, as well as small form factor Push Mail.
  • Stakeholder management: Work closely with Service and Product Management to develop technical roadmaps and drive design, testing and deployment of Messaging products and solutions.  Provides these services on both internal and externally environment, interacts with customers, IT partners, system architects, product managers, service and support teams, and other system users who require input regarding their planned or existing system.
  • Technical tasks: MS Exchange administration, sustaining Engineering work with a strong infrastructure focus. Activities will include break fix and general support within the service line.
  • Support activities: Provide 3rd level support for Messaging Infrastructure and Office Client where required.
  • Support vendor and end-user escalations and requires being on-call (hot pager).


Looking for a Messaging Engineer who is familiar with MS Exchange 2010 and/or 2013 as well as with experience working on Email gateway products. The Engineer will be responsible for configuration management as well as design and deployment of new capabilities. The Engineer will also need to provide escalation support. In addition to demonstrated technical knowledge and skills, the ability to work with Customers and stakeholders, working collaboratively with team members, good communication skills and ability to Influence are important in this job.

Experience preferred:

•Experience with MS Exchange administration and the tools used to administer and investigate accounts.
Troubleshoot complex problems, resolve and document solutions for issues.
•Knowledge of interdependencies and differences of client vs infrastructure issues, Systems engineering, administration, and integration. Knowledge of Microsoft server products, particularly Microsoft Exchange and dependencies with Active Directory.
•Automation, scripting or development skills
•Powershell and vbscript are an added advantage for this position.
•General knowledge of Computer Networking and SAN.

• Bachelor’s degree with 8-10 years' experience in Messaging (primarily MS Exchange), E-mail security and Anti-spam solutions.
