System Architecture innovations are key to positioning Intel for success in the fast-evolving workloads of tomorrow, and to differentiate Intel across the breadth of xPU architectures. Systems Architecture Lab (SAL) within Intel Labs has a strong history of research and development of high-impact technology innovations and collaborating with Intel product teams to incubate and productize these innovations in products across datacenter, client, and edge segments. As we expand our research across multiple technology pillars, we are looking for a motivated, passionate, and self-driven research scientist with breadth and depth across systems software, platform architecture, OS internals, I/O, CPU, and XPU virtualization, high-performance networking, and cloud-scale architecture.

The candidate will be driving results-oriented and disciplined research on new systems-level innovations for at-scale distributed computing, through innovations spanning hardware/software interfaces for new hardware IPs and accelerators, datacenter interconnects/transports and SoC architecture. The individual will study virtualization infrastructure for XPUs and translate those insights into new research and architecture with hardware/software co-design, building a capable prototype to prove/vet concepts, engage key customers for feedback, and work with product teams and business unit collaborators to drive influence product roadmap intercepts. The candidate will be responsible for a variety of roles from driving workload/infrastructure analysis to identifying bottlenecks and optimization opportunities, researching new system architecture concepts, developing quality functional prototypes to vet architecture proposals, developing architecture specifications, and engaging broadly with domain experts across Intel to harness mindshare.

The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of contributions and expertise across multiple domains described above, and be willing to work across research, engineering, product, key customer, and academic partners. The candidate is expected to handle ambiguity and have the persistence to drive research and PoC, communicate effectively, be detail-oriented, and be passionate about transferring the output of disciplined pathfinding to improve the competitiveness of Intel products. Overall system architecture knowledge and a good understanding of virtual memory and paging will be required to succeed in this role. This is a hands-on role that needs the ability to switch between researcher, architect, and engineer mindset. Candidate must be comfortable working in a team setting spanning multiple geos, and interfacing with partners across teams involved in architecture, design, and software/FPGA development.

This is an entry level position and compensation will be given accordingly.


You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences

Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate must possess a Master's degree ( with 3+ years industry experience ) or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Electrical Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering or related computing discipline.
2+ years of experience with x86 architecture, Memory Management Unit (MMU), and SoC and platform architecture.
2+ years of experience with systems software such as OS kernel, programming languages such as C/C++, platform simulators, tracing technologies, and performance analysis.

Working Model
This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
