Linux Engineer
Job Description
This is an upstream Linux kernel developer position, which includes (but not limited to) developing, fixing, debugging, and improving the upstream Linux kernel, contributing Linux kernel changes upstream by sending them to one of the kernel sub-system mailing list. We are looking to add developers focused on the Linux OS Kernel and virtualization, such as qemu. In this position, you will work on enabling and/or optimizing the Linux kernel for Intel CPU features in the upstream for bare-metal and virtualized use cases. Our Intel organization, SSE (System Software Engineering) is responsible for enabling the Intel roadmap across operating systems and virtualization (Linux, Windows, VMware, Chrome OS, Android), cloud native infrastructure, runtimes, and the web platform. SSE ensures Intel builds software-first hardware platforms as well as driving adoption of Intel optimized system software in the ecosystem - with customers, Operating System Vendors (OSVs), Cloud Service Providers (CSPs). Within SSE, the Linux and Chrome OS System Engineering (LCSE) team charter is to leverage our expertise across the Linux OS, Chrome OS and virtualization to drive adoption of Intel optimized/differentiated system software in the ecosystem and enable Intel roadmaps. Our team includes world-class Linux kernel developers and kernel subsystem maintainers. Utilizes knowledge of system software, software architecture, design, debug, development, operating system internals, and silicon on platform features. Designs, develops, maintains, tests, debugs, optimizes, secures, and/or evaluates OS Kernel and system software, including device drivers, virtualization, hypervisor, and/or other open source software technologies. Utilizes knowledge in software architecture, design, debug, development, operating system internals, and silicon on platform features.Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Computer/Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree
- Software development/integration/validation
- Domain knowledge in the areas of Linux kernel, hypervisors and open source operating systems
- Familiarity with Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE, or others
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Passion to work with the open source community
- Able to provide technical leadership, mentoring and direction to junior design engineers in the group and able to come up with technical proposals helping implementation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Track record of successful upstreaming of Linux kernel patches
- Experience working with worldwide teams
- Knowledge of Intel Architecture
