Numerical Software Engineer

Job Description

This position is within Intel Scripting Analyzers and Tools team working on optimization and productization of open source and proprietary technologies for scripting & productivity languages such as Python, R, Julia, and others. This team creates and delivers the IntelR Distribution for Python, an optimized distribution of Python targeting High Performance Computing, Scientific Computing and Data Science markets.

In this team you will be responsible for design, prototyping, productization, optimization and benchmarking of numerical and machine learning packages for productivity languages. Essential part of your work will be collaboration and coordination with multiple stakeholders internally and within open source community. You will be also responsible for interaction with marketing and customer service teams ensuring timely satisfaction of customer needs in the product.Software Engineers conduct or participate in multidisciplinary research and collaborate with design, layout and/or hardware engineers in the design, development, and utilization of productivity enhancement layout tools and design rule checkers, electronic data processing systems software. Determines computer user needs, advises hardware designers on machine characteristics that affect software systems such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements, designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Responds to customer/client requests or events as they occur. Develops solutions to problems utilizing formal education, judgement and formal software process.


We're looking for an experienced mathematician with a specialization in numerical methods.

Added advantage is a specialization in methods of machine learning.

  • Prior job experience in relevant fields is a requirement
  • Material practical experience in C++ and Python is required
  • Extra experience in other object-oriented languages as well as languages such as R, Julia and similar is a plus
  • Candidate must demonstrate ability to write numerical programs using at least two languages
  • Candidate must be fluent working with scientific literature on the subject of numerical methods and methods of machine learning, in both Russian and English, by understanding an algorithm, being able to prototype it and to productize it
  • Familiarity with x86 and GPGPU architectures is an added advantage
