Sr. Director of Programmable Solutions Architecture

Job Description

Intel’s Programmable Solutions Group (PSG)  is seeking a technology leader for the role of Sr. Director of Programmable Solutions Architecture. This position reports to the VP of Programmable Hardware Engineering in PSG.

The candidate is responsible for defining the overall strategy and execution of Silicon and System architecture including performance modeling and validation for PSG. The candidate will work closely with product planning, business divisions, Engineering and CTO teams to define the future of FPGA architectures but will also optimize and leverage Intel’s portfolio of architecture solutions to define the next generation programmable compute platforms to service Communications, Data Center, Security, Cloud, Automotive and Deep learning business segments. This role will play a critical role in setting the direction of the future generation of 10nm and 7nm products within PSG.

Key Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of up to 50 people with responsibility across FPGA architecture, Systems Architecture including Software, SOC architecture performance modeling and path finding new innovations.

Work with Product Planning, Business divisions, Engineering and the CTO office to define and execute the next generation industry leading FPGA architectures, map the technology trends to combine FPGA technology and Xeon architectures to solve the needs of 5G, machine learning, AI and Datacenter applications.

Evaluate investments to drive technology development based on business segments use cases.

  • Work with Engineering and Process technology to drive modularity of architecture, technology re-use and optimize for perf/watt/$.
  • Work with industry and academia to influence roadmap of future Programmable architecture.

Plans, provides resources for and directs activities in engineering function to meet schedules, standards, and cost. Cultivates and reinforces appropriate group values, norms and behaviors. Identifies and analyzes problems, plans, tasks, and solutions. Provides guidance on employee development, performance, and productivity issues. Plans and schedules daily tasks, uses judgement on a variety of problems requiring deviation from standard practices. Inadequacies and erroneous decisions would cause moderate inconvenience and expense.


Qualifications

The Sr. Director role requires the skills to be an industry leader, and to envision and drive a world-class product and technology portfolio, to exploit critical market transitions, and accelerate the overall return on the portfolio investments. This person thinks strategically, distills ideas to practical reality, and then works closely with the cross functional teams and oversees the execution to help achieve metrics and goals.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline
  • 10 or more years of experience in driving new product architecture and system architecture solutions and SW for high revenue ramp.
  • 10 or more years of proven track record of actively managing a highly technical team.
  • Proven track record of developing a strategy and execution plan for architecture of multiple product lines across markets and geographies. The candidate should also have a proven track record of bringing multiple product ideas to volume production.
  • A strong technical background with deep expertise in FPGA architectures, Wired and Wireless communications (5G, NFV), data center, cloud architectures, machine learning, along with a strong understanding of cache coherent links for acceleration.
  • A good understanding of functional safety.
  • Ability to thoroughly analyze competitor products and business strategies, using those insights to anticipate competitive moves and market changes.
  • Ability to prioritize competing opportunities, balance market needs with business strategies and priorities, manage trade-offs and articulate the rationale behind decisions.
  • Brilliant customer focus, used to develop and validate product and business plans.
  • Strong experience with product lifecycles, from concept, product inception to end-of-life, with specific examples of managing challenging product transitions with demanding customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding technical and business presentation skills for audiences that includes executives and customers.
