Senior Automation Engineer

Job Description:

Define, justify, implement, and validate manufacturing equipment for assembly processes for optical sub-components, components and modules.  Specifically high accuracy optical alignment and bonding of optical components with Single Mode Fiber.

 Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of engineers and scientists to develop and bring to manufacturing new equipment and assembly processes required for new products
  • Define equipment requirements and write detailed procurement specifications
  • Provide leadership to Engineering and Operations teams on area of expertise
  • Use sound engineering practice and modeling techniques to design equipment fixtures and process
  • Prepare proposals for capital expenditure
  • Manage equipment installation and start-up
  • Provide technical support and expertise during design, install, start-up, and preliminary production runs of new processes
  • Provide technical training and expertise to operators during process implementation
  • Provide leadership in defining continuous improvement programs for equipment and processes

Qualifications:

  • Highly skilled in using DFM (design for manufacturability), DOE (design of experiment), FMEA (failure modes & effect analysis), gauge R&R, and problem solving skills
  • High familiarity with use of Statistical Tools and Software such as JMP
  • Must have very recent experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated record of yield and cycle time improvement
  • Knowledge of six-sigma, SPC and process capability, OCAP (Out of Control Action Plan), written procedure, operator training, Kaizen or continuous improvement, lean manufacturing techniques
  • Previous experiences – preferably in optical components, modules or solar industries
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and drive cross-functional groups and external partners
  • Strong track-record of developing and implementing innovative solutions to complex problems in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated use of project management skills
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interrelationship skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of process flows
  • Ability to observe and understand existing and new processes

Requirement:

  • BA of engineer/science and advanced technical degrees is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience with the automated SM fiber alignment equipment & equipment suppliers used for optical communication component industry
  • Extensive experience & expertise of process development and over sea CM transfer with successful track record
