The P3 team (Power Pathfinding to Product) within the Enterprise and HPC Platform Group develops HW/SW co-designed performance and power management systems for x86 High Performance Computing platforms utilizing Intel Xeon and Xeon Phi processors and next-generation high performance interconnects. High Performance Computing is being used today to meet some of the world's most challenging scientific needs, including: fusion energy, bio medical, and physics research as well as traditional engineering such as aeronautic and automotive engineering. We are seeking an HPC Researcher. In this role, you will explore improvements to processor architecture for better energy efficiency, power-aware scheduling strategies in the context of Workload Managers, and methods of automatic tuning in applications. Your explorations will define features of upcoming processor products and an open source software runtime for energy management in HPC systems called GEO. Visit this page for more project information: geopm.github.io/geopm You will have responsibility for: -Attaining a deep understanding of the GEO code base within a short ramp period -Attaining a deep understanding of x86 processor architecture within a short ramp period (especially power/performance management and telemetry architecture) -Working with internal Intel teams as well as the research community to define and prove out new processor features for improved power efficiency or power management -Working with the P3 team to co-design the software, firmware, and hardware layers of server power management

Minimum Qualifications: You must possess a Master of Science degree with a minimum of 5 years practical experience OR a PhD with 3 years of practical experience through internships or prior full-time employment. Candidates must possess background in: - Research and experimentation - Linux system tools - HPC background Additional Qualifications: Strong applicants will have some of the following qualifications: - experience with HPC power management research specifically - experience with x86 processor architecture (especially performance and power management and telemetry architecture) - Processor or system simulation tools and methodology - experience with HPC applications and benchmarks - C++ and python programming - Resource Managers, Schedulers, Workload Managers (especially PBS Pro, Torque/Moab, and/or SLURM) - experience with open source software development practices This position involves work on a U.S. Government contract which may impose certain security requirements: - If you are a U.S. citizen, the government may require that you certify that you are a U.S. citizen. - If you are not a U.S. citizen, the government may require you to pass a security check before you can be approved to work on the project.
